First introduction of the iMac | Techday, May 6th
On this TECHDAY in history, on May 6th 1998, Steve Jobs introduced the original iMac at the Flint Center Theater, the same place where Mac was first unveiled in 1984. It would eventually become known as “the Bondi Blue computer”. iMac’s release was on the 15th of August of the same year. Apple booked an unprecedented 150,000 orders before its release, marking the beginning of its “renaissance”. Also, after the iMac, Apple put to use the letter “i” as a flourish on pretty much every product it created.
It was a revolutionary computer that marked the end of the beige box era and the beginning of colorful and stylish computers.
One of the key features of the first iMac was its ease of use. It came with a built-in 56K modem, Ethernet port, and USB ports, making it easy to connect to the internet and other devices. It also came with a number of software pre-installed, including the Mac OS operating system and popular applications like Microsoft Word and Excel.
The first iMac was a huge success and helped turn around Apple’s fortunes. It was followed by a number of updates and improvements, including the introduction of the iMac G4, which featured a flat panel display and a translucent design. Today, the iMac is still a popular choice for both personal and professional use.
