Shanghai Museum of Science and Technology | Technology Museums of the World
The museum opened to the general public back in December 2001. Being one of the most visited museums in the country, it is located in the Pu Dong Shanghai New Area, central area in the Century Avenue beside the Century Park. Since its founding, it has promoted scientific and cultural quality education in a comprehensive and a wholesome curated way. Its initial themes were the harmony of nature, humankind and technology, dedicated to the popularization of science and open access to all.
The architecture and exhibition halls
The architectural building features an ascending spiral rising up to five floors, thus symbolizing the progress of sciences and technology. The enormous glass sphere in the center symbolizes the rise of life out of the water.
The Shanghai Museum of Science and Technology has five exhibition halls devoted to Heaven and Earth, Life, Wisdom, Creativity and Future. There are 14 permanent exhibitions and 4 science themes cinema halls. Some exhibitions to list briefly are the Spectrum of Life, the Earth Exploration, the Light of Wisdom, Human and Health and World of Animals divisions. The halls also include the Space Navigation sector, the World of Robots, Information Era and Light of Exploration. Highly featured are Galleries presenting ancient Chinese inventions and works, explorers and academicians, contemporary scientists from China and abroad.
The four special purposed theaters have regular screenings of science themed movies and documentaries for children and adults alike.

Combining harmoniously natural and technological sciences, the museum offers experiments for visitors and many interactive games to keep them entertained. Exhibitions like the Rainbow Area, Information Era and World of Robots are the highlights for the younger, but not only, audiences.
