Dutch researchers have announced the creation of the first quantum multi node network and they say we will see the realisation of the quantum internet in the near future.
In the past decade, the first steps towards a quantum internet were made.
The connection consisted of two quantum devices, through a direct physical connection. The goal of the quantum internet is to transfer information using quantum bits. These are simultaneously 0 and 1 for more computing power than exists today.
Researchers state that a quantum network will open up a range of new applications, via the cloud, invulnerable to hackers and with full user privacy protection. They do not even rule out the possibility of many applications that we cannot imagine today.
Distribution of states entangled across the nodes of a quantum internet will consequently unlock new technologies. Experimentation on a three-node entrangled quantum network commenced. The research team combined the nodes with memory qubit and local quantum logic. Exploring, testing and developing quantum network protocols and control stacks are now of higher priority and with a warmer academic interest
