Nintendo increases its revenue

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Switch helped Nintendo to increase its revenue in Q3 and beat the most optimistic analyst forecasts.

Nintendo released news on Wednesday indicating it is doing better financially than it was doing last year. Specifically, based on Wednesday’s announcements, their operating profit rose to 158.6 billion yen from 116.5 billion yen a year earlier. The company’s revenue increased from 483 million to 608 million in a year.

Analysts estimate an operating profit at 142.7 billion yen, and revenue at 562.1 billion. In the third quarter, Nintendo sold 9.4 million Switch consoles and 52.5 million copies of the Super Smash Bros Ultimate game.

For the fiscal year of 2018, the company reported a revenue of 1.06 trillion yen. This translates to approximately $9.6 billion USD. There is a  significant increase from the previous fiscal year, where the company reported a revenue of 845.7 billion yen, or approximately $7.6 billion USD.

One of the main drivers for this increase in revenue was the success of the Nintendo Switch, the company’s latest gaming console. Additionally, the release of several popular games for the Switch, such as Super Mario Odussey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, also contributed to the increase in revenue.

The company’s strong financial performance is a positive sign for the future and suggests that Nintendo will continue to be a major player in the video game industry.
