AI system reduces traffic accidents
An Israeli startup, Waycare, developed the new system. The team is working with the Nevada government to make this a pilot project. The goal is to implement it more widely throughout the valley, including all busy roads. Waycare uses cameras, sensors, and data on vehicle traffic at any given time to develop models related to congestion. The system already had testings in Tampa, Florida, and Tel Aviv, with positive results. The Nevada Highway Patrol reports on the use of Waycare’s AI to monitor the roads and prevent traffic accidents. With no additional actions or other measures, there was a reduction on that highway.
The AI system collects information from many sources in real-time, and it calculates the level of risk and takes the necessary measures to avoid accidents. Waycare recognizes a potential risk and alerts the authorities to take different steps and change their messages on the electronic information signs. The project on Interstate 15 resulted in 91% of drivers speeding less than 80 mph.
As Noam Maital, co-founder and CEO of Waycare, said, “The results of this pilot program clearly show that AI and deep learning systems can have a dramatically positive impact on increasing travel safety levels when combined with the appropriate agencies.”
It seems there is an abundance of ways, that an AI system can be exploited
