AMD fills the gap left by Intel

AMD’s inventory problems are certainly not ideal, but the need to find a new processor has meant good news for them. According to IDC, AMD is now capable of filling that void and is becoming popular in many vendors’ eyes as a result.

“Intel is prioritising the enterprise market resulting in a shortage in the low-mid range industry, so AMD has managed to attract manufacturers who cannot source from Intel.” said an IDC spokesperson to PCMag.

AMD laptop processors are the go-to option for many companies in light of industry demands for new models. Although Intel has raised its quality, it is unlikely that a company will make a change with an investment like the AMD one.

One of the key contributors to the increased market demand is how Microsoft announced that Windows 7 support would end in 2020, which prompted a hardware refresh.

With the smartphone market booming in recent years the PC market has been in a steady decline with companies such as HP, Lenovo, Dell and Apple seeing minimal increases in sales, with the exception of Acer which saw a 13.3 percent rise.

“Intel ‘s declining inventory is certainly a good opportunity for AMD to ramp up its sales. Especially in the entry level CPUs segment which targets the general public, as opposed to the business segment where Intel has always had the advantage.” said Mikako Kitagawa, an analyst at Gartner. “Despite the decline in demand in the PC segment, laptops and especially Chromebooks are still strong in the market,” she added.
