New gaming console from Intellivision
The console world has recently seen major changes from major players, like Sony and Microsoft. That said, it is also worth mentioning that there are old companies trying to make a comeback such as Atari, and now Intellivision. After 4 decades, they announced “Amico”, set for release in 2020.
“We’re creating a console that parents WANT to buy, they’re not being asked to do so,” said company president Tommy Talarico in a speech at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo.
President’s statements
“Almost every game made for home consoles these days has only hardcore gamers in mind. We see a world where everyone wants to play at home and with friends. But that’s not possible right now, because the barrier to entry is almost impenetrable for non-gamers. Many are the hardships they face. Brave examples are, the complexity of the controls, the detail of the gameplay or the cost of hardware and software. The list, also, includes the difficulty of learning, with an unbalanced fun factor for the novice. Our goal is to create a console that both gamers and non-gamers will be able to use to have fun and play together. The Intellivision Amico is our answer to this gap we see in today’s video game industry,” he said.
This is the result of the collaboration between veterans in the gaming industry. As for the console, we don’t have many more details, beyond some pictures. The controller retains the design of the old console but, it also includes features of current technology like speakers and microphones. They connect with your device wirelessly via Bluetooth and charge wirelessly too. You can use smartphones as controllers through an app.
There’s a good selection of classic, and new games which are in line with what they did back in the day. Games will be able for download and many will already come pre-installed on the device. The price tag of this device is $149-179.
