Apple is bringing big changes with its software updates, with the most recent privacy policy change. With this update, users will be able to browse their phone in a whole new way.
More tools are coming out in April, and they will continue to arrive until the end of May.
Thursday’s Updates
The updates released on Thursday are in line with the new European data protection regulation GDPR, have been rolling out since January and will continue to update as time goes on.
Now all Apple users can view how their personal data are used with our new unified privacy policy picture. This gives you a clear understanding of what Apple does with your info. “Apple believes that privacy is a fundamental human right.” Apple will address the message to all users who activates its devices after a software update. “Every Apple product, as designed, will minimize the collection and use of your data. It would also provide transparent control over your information.”
The company is proud to say that their latest updates came on the heels of changes in the GDPR, but they still haven’t required any software changes. Unlike competitors like Google, Apple has repeatedly argued that it promotes minimal data collection.
Cook said: “We could make a ton of money if we ‘liquidated’ our customers, if our customers were our product.” We have chosen not to do that. We’re not going to get involved in your personal lives. Privacy to us is a human right, a civil liberty.” In May, just before the GDPR comes into effect, Apple will be updating their website and privacy policy so that users can better exercise four key rights granted by the regulation. This includes: obtaining a copy of your data, requesting an update to your data, deactivating all of your account information.
The company believes that this can help them stand out from their competition, especially since the deactivation feature is much stronger than other centralized platforms. With this feature, Apple will remove the records of users who have requested deactivation from its databases, isolating their accounts but not deleting them.
