Apple stops Facebook tracking

Apple revealed a number of new tools and features in its next software for its devices this week. All designed to hit various targets at once: to ‘brake’ Facebook’s tracking of users’ movements online, to urge users to spend less time in front of their screens. In order to increase the speed of iPhone and iPad devices, andย  improve parental control over their children’s internet browsing.

Vice President in charge of software development Craig Federigi made the announcement at Apple’s international iOS developers conference, in San Jose, California.

The next versions of the iOS and Mac operating systems will put a “block” on Facebook’s automatic recording of users’ “traces.” Apple Safari will be asking users to explicitly give their consent before allowing Facebook to know exactly what they are doing online.

There might be tension between Apple and Facebook for a while. Mark Zuckerberg has defended Facebook’s practices in the face of criticism from CEO Tim Cook.

Fevderiggi said at the developers’ meeting that “this will stop now”. This was the time “to decide whether to keep your information private”.

Analysts believe that other companies will follow this Apple initiative, which will probably put Facebook and Instagram on edge! It also jeopardizes advertising companies that have every reason to want invisible monitoring of users’ online movements for the potential profits.

iOS 12 will be twice as fast than iOS 11. It thus means users won’t need to wait as long before they open their favorite apps.

Apple introduced Screen Time Limit that will allow users to set a daily screen time limit. There will be an urgent full-screen warning if you exceed the preset limit. Adults will be able to extend this limit. They will also be able to prohibit their children from doing the same.
