Siri will eventually speak Greek

The news for Apple users in Greece is encouraging, as Siri in iOS 10 now speaks Greek. This is great news for users who have been waiting a long time for it to happen.

Siri has been supporting many different languages since 2013, and the Greek language was accessible in it’s beta build of iOS 9.2. When it comes to the compatibility of apps with other languages, developers sometimes have a hard time. It’s not clear who to ask and wait for a decision. The particular challenge of languages like Greek can be difficult, especially because they are growing in popularity and in use more often across the globe.

Siri finally in Greek

We’re glad to see that the intelligent assistant is finally listening. It’s been a long time coming, and continues to show how useful these tools can be. The idea of creating a text-to-speech application was first introduced on November 12th, 2007 by Frédéric Kaplan. There is no confirmation that other languages will be supported yet.

Siri is a virtual assistant that has been consistently updated. You can find her at the iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS and tvOS operating systems of Apple Inc. A virtual assistant uses voice queries and a natural language user interface to answer questions, make recommendations and perform actions. It adapts to the way you speak and searches for the information you need.

A Greek user can also receive personalised results from Siri if he is logged into iCloud. You can also activate Siri or say Hey Siri by pressing the home screen button and/or the Siri button.
