iPhone 7 microphone problem
In May 2018, Apple acknowledged a problem that was affecting iPhone 7 and 7 Plus running iSO 11.3, and shortly afterwards leaked an internal document to Apple Store employees about the problem. An excerpt from that document stated
Some consumers may be having problems with their iPhone since upgrading to iOS 11.3. As a result, the microphone on the iPhone 7 and iPhone7 Plus is not working, and the speaker button is faint when calling someone or receiving a call.
-
The speaker button is dim during calls
-
Other users cannot hear you when you make a call over a mobile network or during FaceTime calls.
-
If a user is playing a video or voice memo made after installing iOS 11.3, there is no sound.
Apple’s document then provided the steps that authorized repair centers should follow, including disconnecting all bluetooth headsets or accessories that are connected to the iPhone. If phone problems continue and the iPhone is out of warranty, Apple will ask for service centers to perform an “exception.”
For a short while, Apple Stores and authorized partners could repair iPhones without any additional cost to the owner. However, these exceptions would end in July 2018 when Apple supposedly deleted the document or made it disappear. A lot of support employees at Apple then said this policy never existed.
The problem continues in iOS 12.1.1 but Apple’s documents have so far not identified the cause. The cost to repair this problem is 300 or more. Users continue to report the issue. For other issues browse through Apple’s support website by following the link.
