AI knows your emotions
Fujitsu’s machine-learning technology is capable of identifying complex emotions such as confusion or anger. It can take into account the facial expressions somebody might make.
While it is difficult to study human emotions, past research has shown that knowing which emotions someone is experiencing can have a big impact on how you will perceive them. This new technology developed by Fujitsu focuses on eight of the most common emotional states and can quantify what someone’s feeling based off their personal data.
Facial detection technology has been advanced, so it is able to attach facial movements to specific emotional states. The AI can read these movements in order to create more accurate conversations with humans. The training process to identify emotions is a big problem. However, so far, it has been relatively easy because of the large number of images that can be used.
Fujitsu’s technology can even make images taken at an angle perceived by the camera as front facing images. This is estimated to save time for the machine, while allowing more information to be extracted from a given image.
The scientists in this study believe that their technology can have a big impact on our world. To uncover emotions, you have to detect the key properties of human communication – pitch, timbre, and volume. This level of accuracy shows how innovative Fujitsu’s technology is that it could reach a result that other similar devices like Microsoft has already been able to achieve in developing its artificial intelligence work. Psychologists disagree as to whether the machine, regardless of the technology it uses, can reach a satisfying level of understanding of human personality.
