Austria Investigates Amazon
Austria’s competition authority announced today that they’re investigating whether US retail giant Amazon used their dominant position to preference their own products over those of local retailers.

The Federal Authority stated that they are currently looking into complaints recently received. Many allegations and heavy critique proceeded about unfair commercial practices with Amazon Amazon in Austria, as the retailer uses its position on the marketplace to harm retailers that profit from selling the same products.
BWB added: “There are reasonable grounds to suspect that Amazon is blatantly discriminating by promoting some retailers over others, and in doing so is unduly favouring its own products within its own store.” Reportedly, Amazon closed the accounts of Austrian vendors without warning. This naturally points to the company using underhanded tactics in the absence of any evidence. Thus, Austria investigates Amazon for recent actions.
There are also other complaints such as the products being so expensive that it is no wonder they can’t go any lower.
Austrian retailers are saying that Amazon is allegedly posing clauses to them. This means they will not be able to take any action if they feel there’s been a violation in their agreement with Amazon. BWB chief executive Theodor Thanner said: “We need everyone to understand that the digital world has no legal loopholes. Companies operating on a global scale must comply with the applicable Austrian laws and regulations, otherwise they will face justice.”
The IFA carried out a study in close cooperation with the German Federal Antitrust Office. As, currently, there’s no investigation on Amazon, evidence shows that there’s nothing for the company to worry about. ฮt indirectly affects Greece in a way, because Greek customers and sellers on Amazon’s website.
