12-gigabit LPDDR5 mobile DRAM
Just five months after announcing the mass production of 12GB LPDDR4X memory, Samsung has made another announcement. The company has started production of the industry’s first 12-gigabit (Gb) LPDDR5 mobile DRAM. Samsung has taken not of the growing demand for premium smartphone of higher performance and higher capacity devices. Planning for July, will launch mass production of 12-gigabyte (GB) LPDDR5 packages, each combining eight 12Gb chips.
Now you can take full advantage of next-gen capabilities on your smart device as 5G with this new Samsung DRAM introducing machine learning. It has an average speed of 1,866Mbps and power efficiency of 78.8W/TRs.
The speed of this new mobile RAM is 1.3X faster than the previous LPDDR4X memory standard for high-end smartphones. LPDDR5 is a technology that allows for large amounts of data to be transferred in a short amount of time. It does this by utilizing small electrical charges between its memory cells which replaces traditional electrical signals. For example, one LPDDR4 module can transfer up to 44GB data in one second. The new chip also uses up to 30% less power than its predecessor. It has a new circuit design and improved timing and coding. It can run on low-power modes even when running at lightning speed, ensuring stable performance.
New manufacturing facilities
Samsung is considering transferring production of its 12Gb LPDDR5 to its Korea facility from the beginning of next year, depending on demand from its customers internationally. That would allow Samsung to more efficiently manage their production capacity. Xiaomi, Samsung, and Hynix are all expected to release 16Gb LPDDR5 in 2020 as an attempt to consolidate their competitive advantage in global memory.
Jung-bae Lee, Executive Vice President of the DRAM Products & Technology Division of Samsung Electronics, said:
“With the mass production of 12Gb LPDDR5 being integrated into Samsung’s second-generation 10-nanometer (nm) process, we are excited to support the ideally timed launch of 5G smartphone smartphones for our global customers. Samsung remains committed to delivering next-generation mobile memory technologies that offer stronger performance and greater capacity as we continue to aggressively grow the premium memory market.”
