Decreased production of iPhone and AirPods.
Apple has decided to cut down on production of its iPhones and AirPods. The current state of global affais marked a heavy blow. With the crisis in Ukraine and ever-rising inflation beginning to weigh on the demand for consumer electronics,
Apple’s newest phone, the iPhone SE, is experiencing a stronger-than-wanted demand. Instead of cutting production by 20 percent next quarter, they might eliminate 2 million or 3 million units from what was originally planned. US tech giant Apple saw a significant fall in their AirPods sales as they experienced tepid demand from consumers. They started to reduce inventory levels in order to meet the sluggish demand for the product.
Apple officially unveiled 5G connectivity for its lower priced model in February. This was the first time Apple offered such a feature for its most affordable phone. Counterpoint conducted research and found that the previous 4G iPhone SE accounted for 12% of total sales in the second quarter of 2020 to 2021. Japan was the largest market after US.
The company has also asked suppliers to reduce the production of their iPhone 13 series, but noted that this adjustment was based on the recent observations of the demand for their products.
