Beyond 4.0 Expo 2022 | Get Future Ready | Thessaloniki’s first Technology Fair

Beyond 4.0 is the first international stage in South Eastern Europe that laid the groundwork in the co-capital of Thessaloniki, Greece, for engineering innovation and technology. Already since day one of the technology fair, marked a staggering success and proved what was missing from the market. Professionals of the industry sector and visitors alike, all agreed on this promoting Thessaloniki as technology hub, a reference point for the whole of SE Europe, the Mediterranean and MENA region.

 

Exhibition Dates and Concept

Major companies and new startups supported this three-day event taking place between September 29th to October 1st of 2022 in Pavilions 12 to 15. A total of 180 companies and exhibitors coming from 30 different countries welcomed around 6.300 visitors and counting. With more than 10 Parallel Events and Workshops and over 100 speakers we could certainly consider the visit a fulfilling experience for visitor of all ages or professions etc.

The Union of Municipalities supported from the very first moment the exhibition even since being a notion. Last October, from 14th to 16th, at the annual congress of the Union one thing was particularly made evident. The world is constantly changing and the local government should complete the digital transformation of municipalities. Particularly highlighted was the prospect of Smart Cities, with the integration of technological innovations in the local government. Organizers and Sponsors

The Exhibition of Beyond 4.0, Get Future Ready, took place in a 20.000 sqm exhibition space inside the International Exhibition Center in the heart of Thessaloniki, organized by HELEXPO and institutions as Region of Central Macedonia and the City of Thessaloniki as well. Many gold sponsors of the technology fair as Cisco, IBM, Intracom Telecom and Deloitte were present. Accordingly, great supporters include Samsung, SEPE, Hetia and the Hellenic Republic Regions of Attica, Central Macedonia and Crete. All events happened under the auspices of three Ministries of Hellenic Republic. These are the Ministry of Digital Governance, of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Development and Investments. Many major greek newspaper companies supported as Media Partners and Sponsors. These include Naftemporiki, Parallaxi.mag, GRTIMES, thestival.gr, ThessToday and Karfitsa.gr.

During Beyond stakeholders of change had the direct opportunity to grow their network and showcase innovations and ideas. They could discuss the impact and opportunities of technology as key factor for the potential to accelerate economic growth. Professional participants had the chance to empower their identity and make their presence known to the constantly changing, challenging growing modern market.

 

An international technology hub

Through this international platform (Beyond 4.0, Get Future Ready) developing companies convened on the economic and social impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, as well as the opportunities that has created. The conference worked as a technology hub for the world’s upcoming brightest minds, talents and products. Apart from the B2B (Business to Business) meetings held, the conference featured speeches, workshops, round tables and presentations. All technology matters focused on finance, security, telecommunication, automotive etc.

 

Some of the topics covered at the technology fair

  • Artificial Intelligence

Visitors could immerse on all the fields of evolving technologies, such as the artificial intelligence (AI). They would be able to get a grasp on the impact AI has on modern day-to-day life with its various fields of applications.

  • Bitcoin and Blockchain

Another notable topic of current affairs was Bitcoin and the Blockchain technology. Cryptocurrency, as a virtual currency removes the need for third party involvement in the financial transactions. Bitcoin, being the best-known cryptocurrency is one of the many versions of a blockchain distributed ledger system in the market. The data is scattered all over blockchain because of their previous use in other transactions as well. This system records information in a complex way to avoid hacking or cheating.

Many consider blockchain the future of the internet, trusting it will create an uncensorable, trusted repository of data accessible worldwide. This decentralized digital currency evolved to fulfill the needs of an impenetrable, unhackable electronic payment system.

  • Big Data

It refers to data sets too large, or complex, for traditional data processing softwares to handle. Challenges include data storage and analysis, transfer, visualization and querying data source. The current usage of the term refers more to predictive analytics and user behavior analysis. With the analysis of data sets, professionals can spot business trends and meliorate research and the informatics system. Big Data addresses a range of activities on product development, customer experience, machine learning, innovation and efficiency.

There are three principles in Big Data, otherwise known as three Vs. These are Volume, Velocity and Variety. Firstly, the amount and structure of data matters. The speed of the data receive follows next. Some require real-time evaluation and action. The third principle refers to the variety of data available. There are unstructured, but semi-structured data types as well.

  • 6G

It is the sixth generation of mobile system in the telecommunications, currently in development supporting mobile data networks. As the successor of 5G network, it will be, as estimated, significantly faster. Many companies, research institutes and countries has shown interest in the development of this progressive network. It might use millimeter waves and Terahertz radiation with more sensitive propagation of the frequencies than any other G network beforehand.

Winning the bet to make Thessaloniki a focal point, a technology and innovation hub for 2022 the bar has been set very high.   • NFT (Non Fungible Tokens)

It is a record on blockchain associated with an asset, digital or physical. NFTs are tradeable assets with unique identification to reduce the probability of fraud in online transactions. The owner of an NFT can transfer ownership, but doesn’t grant intellectual rights and copyright. They have been used on speculative investments. Due to their use in art scams, mostly, they have begun to collapse.

Cryptocurrencies are fungible. They can, thus, be traded or exchanged. The exact thing that applies for physical money, to exchange one for another. One bitcoin is always equal in value to another one. NFTs, though, are like unique digital cards of ownership, thus non-fungible.

NFTs have potential for several use cases. For example, they can ideally digitally represent physical assets like real estate and artwork. Much of the current market for NFTs revolves collectibles. Some examples are digital artwork, sports cards, and rarities.
