CCleaner 5.50

CCleaner 5.50 version | New updates

Piriform released CCleaner 5.50 just yesterday and it includes a long-awaited feature, the option to not automatically install new updates in the new version. This only applies to those who pay a subscription, unfortunately, not provided to the free version.

CCleaner was updated to the latest version without warning or giving an option, something that is not considered ethical and is something users were not happy about. Piriform has acknowledged these complaints from a large portion of users and will restore moral legality, presumably because this case is legally classified as a crime.

The company reported on this issue: “From CCleaner v5.46 and onwards we have been responding to legal requirements by respectfully adhering to the letter of the law and giving our users more autonomy and transparency with regard to their privacy settings. From now on, every user will have the opportunity to disable Important Updates. The installation won’t begin automatically. However the paradoxical element of the case is that these updates are considered absolutely necessary. CCleaner can run safely on the user’s individual computer.”

The installation of important updates is automatic by default. Piriform recommends not to block them, as they contain fixes that can affect its smooth operation. Quite possibly, though, they cause glitches. Piriform pointed out that: “If we find that the version of CCleaner used is quite old and outdated, then we will install any major update automatically to minimise any risk during the cleanup.”
