Clean seabed with an app

Clean seabed with an app

An innovative phone app, Oclean, developed a greek high school students team. The application aims at clean up the seabed pollution problem. With this innovasion, students of the General High School and Vocational High School of the American Agricultural School will enter a student business exposition. This event will take place on the 28th of February at the Mediterranean Cosmos

18 students are a part of the project, all members of the school’s entrepreneurship group. According to the teacher in charge of the group, all the students worked hard and methodically to set up the app from scratch. “It was significant that they not only sought, but secured significant sponsorships from environmentally-conscious institutions,” she added.

The president of the “virtual business” and student of the school’s second grade General High School, Christos Kalamboukas, made a statement. He emphasised that the oclean application’s design is to enable us, when we detect contamination on the seabed, to communicate this information. Once you’ve detected the type of waste (plastic, glass, aluminum) and its size in the app, you’ll be able to record the coordinates for its location on a shared map. The map records the history of the actions taken to clean up a specific area and also allows for uploading before and after photos for a more complete story.

The Oclean application is supported by videos posted on its Facebook page by the performer Panos Mouzourakis, the world underwater fishing champion Yannis Sideris, the world technical swimming champion Smaragda Skalidou and the rowing champions Aneta Aretaki and Vassilis Tsalikidis. It’s so fortunate to be able in the future to clean the seabed with an app.
