Compensation for slow Internet coming
Telecom companies will accept compensation to clients for slow Internet connections today.
As of the most recent revision to telecommunications regulations for Sri Lanka, phone calls to and from all networks including fixed line and mobile will be cheaper. In implementing this regulation, they have also implemented a plan to inform subscribers that they will receive, at minimum, the value of their connection speed.
Until recently, ISPs didn’t require to provide information on their actual speeds to customers. Now they are. This should help router companies promote services that accurately reflect what a speed can offer the customer.
That means that subscribers should have information about the speed they can expect on their device. This is important because a slow internet connection may signal more data usage and more bills.
The case of subscriptions
When it comes to subscriptions, a couple things are important. First, you should know exactly how much money charged and which services the subscription covers. This is particularly important when it comes to new subscribers and their contract. As the broadband connection provides home internet access to the minimum standard, it is only expected that subscribers have a level of quality that meets their needs. However, if there are instances where there have been continuous or repeated deviations from this mark then you’re entitled to compensation or redress.
Compensations on subscribers’ bills will be made by providing discounts on their next bill, refunding part or all of the extra sum or offering a choice for customers to lower the data sending speed for their package, without the subscriber having to pay a fee for early termination of a fixed-term contract.
This technology will be provided even between different connection technologies. Make sure your home internet is working at its best to avoid costly contract cancellations! VDSL and Fiber connections must have a minimum speed of 6 Mbps in order to connect. If the speed is lower than this, the company will send a technician to fix it. In case they can’t fix it, you have the right to cancel the contract without penalty within 14 days after.
