Cooperation for Democritus and EY

Demokritos National Research Centre and EY announced their pioneering cooperation, at a global level. In the field of AI and intelligent document analysis, the institution assembled a team of specialized scientists and contribute to the transformation of the brain drain into a brain gain for our country.

EY recognizes the long-standing and specialized expertise of the researchers at SKEL. The Knowledge and Software Engineering Laboratory at Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications, chose Greece to create an AI Center of Excellence. The Centre, with Dr. Georgios Paliouras as scientific director, will conduct primary research in the field of document intelligence.

Centre of Excellence

The new Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence will bring together SKEL Laboratory researchers with new ones. For the first time, this will establish a research team at the NCSR Demokritos in Agia Paraskevi, Attica. They´ll grow the team and attract talented researchers from all over the world. The focus will be on research as to how AI can help with understanding documents and dealing with information efficiently.

The center will be a global resource for researching AI and intelligent document analysis. Ιt would bring together researchers, scientists and AI practitioners with business experts from a wide range of industrial sectors. It will leverage emerging technologies to exponentially accelerate Innovation.

The research will help EY design better digital services and generate new knowledge, which will be patented jointly. The results will be published in scientific journals or other platforms.

Dr. Georgios Nounesis, former Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Democritus National Research Centre said: “EY’s decision to invest in Democritus confirms the top quality of the research results produced at the Centre and the global reach of its researchers. Demokritos will co-own intellectual property with EY in the future putting us in the very depths of international innovation. I am particularly excited about this success. The road that will bring other international giants to the Agia Paraskevi ecosystem is open. They will contribute to the return of young scientists to our country, after a lot of hard work.”
