Adobe Flash Player’s march through time
Adobe has abandoned Flash Player in favor of a more mobile future. They have stopped supporting it since the end of last year. In their announcement they underlined that computers will no longer execute it. Flash Player was a free browser extension that allowed users to stream content from the web and play games in their browser. It was an animation software program that was first introduced in 1994. It made it possible to produce vector graphics without needing high internet speeds. The popular game Farmville was a classic example of a Flash application.
Adobe’s software had been pre-installed on the vast majority of machines for decades now. It counts over 99% of Internet-connected devices by recent estimates. Flash’s popularity was short, as it failed to become standard on the rise of smartphones in the late 2000s.

Adobe gave up on Flash player back in 2010, because it wasn’t compatible with the mobile device market. “When the company introduced iPhone, we knew this day was coming.” David Mendels, former Vice President of Adobe said to BBC stated. “I do think Apple wanted to create their own ecosystem with Apple products and services. Only time will tell if they are successful,” he added. In 2014, another drawback of Flash the HTML5 eliminated. The drawback was the need for plugins to play videos. In this way, it enabled video playback. It replaced Flash on websites such as YouTube soon enough.
Flash will be removed on January 12. Several sites that rely on Flash won’t function anymore. The Internet Archive has recently made 2,000 Flash creations available on the internet. Adobe offers instructions for how to uninstall Flash from Windows and Mac computers.
