
End of season for all Chargers | One USB port for all chargers?
A new proposal came yesterday from the Commission. A new legislation will oblige smartphone and electronics manufacturing companies to equip their devices with a standard USB–C charging port.
The Commission announced on Thursday, 23rd of September 2021, that the proposed legislation will be designed to reduce waste and facilitate the life of consumers. The large financial burden on consumers for various types of chargers, as estimated, reaches about 2.4 billion euros annually. Another notable point urging the standardisez port for all devices was the ecological impact it has on the environment. Up to 11.000 tons of discarded or unused chargers end up in the waste of Electrical and electronic equipment annually.
More specifically, the proposal concerned all portable devices such as smartphones, tablets, cameras, headsets, portable speakers, etc.
Despite any opposition from Apple, the charging port and fast charging technology will abide with the standard USB-C port. A proposal by the European Commission to was the response to the company, to revise the directive presented. In addition, another proposition ushered the separate sale of chargers from electronic devices.
