“Win-A-Robot” competition winners

“Robotics and automation will play an important role in supporting the growth and competitiveness of European businesses in the future,” said Volker Spanier, Director of Robotics at Epson Europe, during the announcement of the competition winners.

“It is very important to ensure that today’s students are excited, but also well prepared to take on this challenge. Epson seeks to work with the talent of the future to develop and evolve their skills and their work towards this goal. We believe this announcement is just the beginning of constructive, long-term relationships with European universities.”

Winners

The winners of the Win-A-Robot 2018 competition are:

  •  University of Plymouth, UK, with the project “Self-Adaptive Robot Assisted Manufacturing in Intelligent, Sustainable, Active Cells”

  • University of Pavia, Italy, with the project “Pervasive Learning for Safe Human-Robot Physical Interaction”

  • Heinz-Nixdorf-Berufskolleg, Germany, with the project “Simulation of E-Commerce using the Example of a Plant-based Candy Filling Factory”

  • Tallaght Institute of Technology, Ireland, with the project ‘Robotics, Food Production and Harvesting’.

  • University of Padua, Italy, with the project “ChocoBot – Energy-Adapted Decoration for Holiday Cakes and Instant Manufacturing of Original Chocolate Formulations”

  • University of Pecs, Hungary, with the project “Robotic Control with Augmented Reality Goggles”

Jury comittee

The jury committee consisted of robotics experts: Darwin Caldwel, Eva Kaili, Dr. Imre Paniti, Patrick Schwarzkopf and Yoshifumi Yoshida.The judges met in Merbus, Germany to select the winning project. A rigorous set of criteria determined the winners of this competition. They looked for projects that were innovative with regards to skills development, sustainable and unique use of robots. New generations of scientists are helping drive the future of robotics in Europe.

Epson and its partners will be next to the academic institutions, supporting and training them.

The Robotics industry has grown a lot over the last decade, and in 2018 it was announced that the sector will grow to be worth €1.5 trillion. This is why Epson is committed to its robots being able to continue to learn more on their own, especially as they want to help diversify what these bots can do for us in our daily lives.
