14 million users fall victim to a Facebook bug | Privacy settings changing without notice

Facebook has notified that over 14 million users all around the world have fallen victim to a bug that altered their privacy settings to public. For that reason people might notice that private posts they made only for their friends are now seen by everyone.

An issue was discovered in mid-May and they’re asking users to check their privacy settings.

”We recently discovered a bug. The system automatically suggests publishing the posts publicly when people created their Facebook post. We fixed it and today we are starting to notify those affected. We are, thus, asking them to check the posts they made at that time. To be clear, the bug didn’t affect anything that had been uploaded before. For the posts, users can still pick their audience as they always have been able to. We’d like to apologize for this mistake.” says Erin Egan, Facebook’s head of privacy.
