Facebook introduces Quiet Mode

Facebook introduces Quiet Mode

In an effort to help users reduce their dependency on Facebook, the company announced a new Quiet Mode for notifications. These notifications will silenced unless the user deliberately turns it off. It’s an important measure that should be used when need to divert one’s attention for a more pressing matter. It’s important to know that this is different from “mute push notifications” as Quiet Mode allows for a lot more options.

The user can either manually turn it on or set a schedule. It will stop all notifications, both in-app and those you see in the notification bar at the top of your screen. For that reason, it discourages users from opening the app at the times they have set and if they try to do so, they will faced with the Quiet Mode screen which will inform them of the time remaining. They can of course turn it off or use Facebook for 15 minutes.

The Facebook app is restricted from being accessed for certain periods of time (e.g. after 10pm). If you try to open it before the allotted period, you will greeted with a message informing you how long left until that period begins. You can, of course, turn off Quiet Mode but only for 15 minutes. We have the tools to help you find the right balance in your Facebook use.

Apple iOS users can enjoy a quieter time at work since the release of their latest update, which should roll out to the Android OS next month.
