Millions of files leaked | Breach of security
Facebook has been in the news a lot recently because of data scandals and privacy violations. The latest one is the storage of security codes in plain text files.
March 2018, it was revealed that Facebook shared their users’ personal data (without their permission) with various tech giants.
The UpGuard Cyber Risk group reported that Mexican news website Cultura Colectiva had used Amazon servers to store 540 million Facebook user records, including identification numbers, comments, reactions and account names. “At the Pool” app also used documents on Amazon. There are some documents that contain sensitive information. They include names, passwords and email addresses of just over 22,000 people.
Cultura Colectiva said that all of the Facebook database records derived from users’ interactions with the three pages it maintains on the social networking site. It is the same information that can be accessed by anyone browsing those pages.
Alex Capecelatro, At the Pool’s CEO, declined to comment about the leaked files and Amazon did the same.
Facebook and Amazon have confirmed that they have immediately initiated the necessary procedures to remove the databases in question from their servers as soon as possible. In addition, Facebook Inc. has made it clear that it does not want to store any user data in public databases.
