
Filmmaker Mode | Motion smoothing feature available
The organisation responsible for setting standards for displays (the UHD Alliance) has recently made grand announcements. Filmmaker Mode will be available immediately on Samsung and Philips TVs already. Meanwhile LG, Panasonic and Vizio have also shown interest, promising to bring it to their TVs in 2020.
But what exactly is Filmmaker Mode? Most TVs today have active motion smoothing. This processing typically makes the picture look more smooth. In some cases, though,ย but could sometimes make it appear blurry. People refer to this phenomenon as the “soap opera effect”. Motion smoothing may make the video you watch look a little bit better, but in most cases it does not improve the quality.
It takes out all the processing on your TV, so you get to see movies like the filmmaker intended. The setting will be common across all of the manufacturers, which makes it easy to search.
Filmmaker Mode is the filmmaking software of choice for famous directors such as Scorsese, J.J. Abrams, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan and others.
