One billion 5G subscriptions | Technology News

5G will be able to cover a lot more people in the next few years. It will help future technology and could lead to even greater innovations down the line.

Millions of people use mobile broadband services and more and more devices have the ability to provide augmented services that are similar to what you would get with a PC. Services such as Facetime, Skype, etc can all be accessed on your handheld device. They foresee one billion subscriptions by 2023.

5G is a technology that will cover up to 20% of the world’s population by the end of 2023. While initial 5G implementations are likely to be in urban areas, we expect all regions and areas with more than 20 people per sq km will gain coverage. 5G NR networks will have major consequences all over the world, commercialized in 2019. The first deployment of networks will be in countries like the US, Japan, and South Korea.

Data traffic on mobile devices is about to surge, a 8x increase over the given period of time. This will lead to an enormous amount of video streams, equating to 5.5 million years of high-definition footage by 2023.

Mobile Data Traffic

Mobile data traffic is growing across all geographies, with the highest average usage per smartphone device seen in North America. The average smartphone user won’t reach 7GB per month until Q4 of 2017. Video consumption continues to grow and is only growing more with time. Managed-based internet service providers are constantly revamping their services so that they can be used in the most efficient way possible, but millennials are driving this up with 38% of mobile broadband data traffic growth rates compared to the overall average of 27%.

Data consumption volumes are to spike due to the continuous streaming of high-definition video. Another reason is the emerging trend of increased streaming of more immersive video formats, such as 360-degree video. 360-degree videos on YouTube take up 4-5 times more bandwidth than a standard YouTube video. Switching to 360-degree videos may save you money by decreasing your monthly data costs.

By the end of 2018, about 70% of all internet usage will become wireless. 5 billion people will have LTE that covers 85% of the world’s population.

Volume-LTE is available on more than 125 networks around the world. It will, expectedly, reach 5 billion users by the end of 2023, with 60% penetration in LTE subscription installations

Nowadays there are a lot of smartwatches on the market, and customers can use them with VoLTE technology. This allows users to make calls or switch seamlessly between their watch and smartphone.
