“Friends Nearby” Facebook feature ends
With an announcement on their page, Facebook informed all their users that on the 31st of May the “Friends Nearby” service, Weather alerts, Location History and Background Location Notification will come to an end. Notifications from the Friends Nearby and Weather services will no longer be available from that date.
After May 31st 2022, the data you shared and used for these experiences- Location History and Background Location Notification- will no longer be collected, even if you have enabled them before.
You can access and download your Location History in the “Access Your Information” section until August 1st. After August of 2022, any Location History or Background Location Notification information you had previously shared will be deleted.
Facebook will keep collecting location information for other purposes as outlined in the Data Policy.
