“Car accident detection” feature
Sensors and hardware that monitor our location or activities can be extremely useful. They can determine our physical condition although there may be many cases of abuse.
For example, Apple has been able to create technologies that can detect their users falling and notify emergency services in case of an accident. Google Pixel 4 is rumored to feature a new kind of detection that’s different from the ones it already offers. This will make its appearance in other devices, but for now, stay tuned for more information about the latest release.
As well as being able to check the weather by simply pressing a button on your phone, you’ll soon be able to know if there was an accident up ahead while you’re travelling.
How it works
Using a combination of motion sensors and microphones, the app can activate a series of “screens” on the phone to ensure the owner is okay, and if not, alert an emergency service (e.g. an ambulance). Initially, the app asks the user if there has been a car accident, waiting for the user to respond. If there is no response, it automatically notifies the emergency services. If there is a response, then it asks the device user if there was indeed a crash or if they misinterpreted the incident. The app update also adds another feature that allows a Pixel device user to notify a selected number of contacts of the emergency situation.
According to Mishaal Rahman from the XDA Developers forum, the upgrade of Emergency Information, which also renames the app to Personal Safety, is most likely coming with the Pixel 4. A Pixel 2 XL will be able to download future updates without a need for an upgrade.
