Fingerprint login through chrome
Starting today, Google’s new Chrome feature will finally let you log in to its services just by using your fingerprint. We’re rolling out the new feature to all Android phones operating on 7th software version or higher. It will be available shortly.
Android lets you use your fingerprint to log into apps. Users can now use their fingerprint to sign in to Google services using Chrome. For now, the new fingerprint feature is limited to your saved passwords. This means that you can view and edit them by using only your fingerprint. However, this feature will be rolled out to a lot more services in the future.
The new feature is based on the FIDO2 and WebAuthn protocols which can make your passwords more secure. All Android 7 devices and later support FIDO2. With this fingerprint-based system, user credentials are stored locally on the device and reduce the chances of hacking from company servers. Plus they’re impossible to intercept by phishing scams that lead you to fake websites in order to get your password.
You can test if the new feature has reached your device by opening the Chrome app on your mobile device and going to ‘passwords.google.com’. Did you already know about this feature, the fingerprint login in Google?
