Automatic data deletion on YouTube
Google announced new features (which include an expanded “incognito” use and the ability to automatically delete data) that allow users more control over their privacy and security.
Google web apps will gradually add Incognito mode. To date, YouTube, Chrome and now Maps already possess this web feature. Searching in Incognito Mode won’t show up in your Google Account or be used to personalize your Maps experience.
Tap your profile icon and select Incognito. The user can turn it on or off at any time. Soon, Incognito mode will be available for Android devices as well, and will soon come to iOS devices as well.
In May, Google announced that users can now automatically delete now things they’ve searched and browsed. This will include location history and web and app activity. Now automatic deletion is coming to YouTube history as well. The user can set the length of time to keep their data (three months, 18 months or until they delete it).
Yet the company announced that it’s now easier for people to navigate and understand their data in Google Assistant. They have also revamped privacy control to be even simpler, with voice commands. In the coming weeks, any user will be able to delete Assistant activity in their Google account by saying, for example, “Hey Google, delete the last thing I said to you” or “Hey Google, delete everything I said to you last week.”
You don’t need to worry about enabling these features before using them. They will work automatically when you ask Assistant for help and it will inform you if you want to delete your data from your account, so that you’ll know exactly where to go next. We’ll see the implementation of language localization for all languages next month.
Along with the goal of ensuring higher security, we can only hope that “Password Check,” a new feature that with one click tells you if your password is weak or if it’s been created before, will soon be released.
