
Google goes on the counter-attack after European Commission fine
The FTC fined Google โฌ709 million for breaching antitrust laws. We all knew that Google was planning to appeal the multi million fine imposed by the Commission for breaching competition rules. Now, as confirmed, Google has begun its counter attack. The American giant has filed an appeal, as Europe’s Court of Justice announced.
“The appeal against the fine has been filed,” a spokesman for the court said.
The European Commission fined Google with 2.42 billion euros in June. With this money, it claims that the company had violated antitrust rules with regards to its shopping services. According to this report from the Commission, Google is abusing its dominant position in online searches to favor its price comparison service Google Shopping and harm competitors. In response to a question from Agence France-Presse, Google has confirmed its counter attack and that they filed this complaint. No more comments on this. For its part, the European Commission said they will defend “its decision before the courts”, without providing any further details.
