
Technology products on the rise
The Greek consumer technology goods market made a big move upwards in Q2 2019, with sales and total value reaching $481 million. The sign also looks positive at six-month levels. As the market value increased by 1.5%, it reached €980 million. Large household appliances saw sales growth at a 10.9% rate in the second quarter of this year, while small household appliances grew 8.7%. There was a 2.8% increase in IT product sales during the period.
The Q2 2019 sales of technology products increased by 1.5% on a six-month basis.
According to the GfK TEMAX data, four out of the seven total individual product categories in the market saw an increase in sales while three saw a significant drop. The fastest-growing category, in terms of value, in Q2 was Transcommunications (€147 million). One of the largest categories in Home Appliance industry, Large Household Appliances, saw a 10.9% increase in sales to €122 million. In Information Technology, the third strongest category in the market, sales value increased by 2.8% to 97 million euros in the period under review.
Consumer Electronics sales declined in Q2 2019 by 12 percent within the sector. Among other categories, sales of office equipment and consumables dropped 8.6% to €6million, while sales of photo equipment fell 1.7% to €6 million.
There was growth in the telecoms segment in Q2. Sales of Fixed Phones continued growing, while there were significant increases in sales of Headsets and Core Wearables. The Q2 2019 Mobile Sales trend continued to be negative.
In the IT Products category, Monitors continued for another quarter to show significant growth. It is linked to the rise of gaming. Keyboard sales were also positive, for the same reason. The rise in laptop sales also goes hand in hand with gaming.
Gaming and Leisure Devices had a strong quarter, with network cards being the main driver of growth. Analysts believe that the growth is also due to promotions. Gaming has also contributed greatly to the continued rise in desktop sales, with the launch of new models.
The Media Tablets category is down, and the Mobile PC category also droped. Unfortunately, the Point-ing category has seen a decline in sales this quarter also.
The Loudspeakers and AHS categories recorded significant growth, helped by some strong promotions.On the other hand the TV category began to drop down as the World Cup was being played in the corresponding quarter last year. There was a decline in PMPs, DVD-Players, Navigation Devices, Memory Cards, Headphones, USBs, Camcorders and Usb for Q2 2019. Consoles, multifunction devices and printers have shown a declining trend consistently for the past two quarters.
For the second quarter of this year, it seems that the photographic products sector has seen a downturn in terms of profit and sales.
