
Quora attacked by hackers
Quora recently discovered a data breach that has resulted in hackers stealing 100 million user data.
This data included the username, email address and the encrypted version of the password. If someone entered data into Quora from another social network, then it is also likely to be in the hands of the cybercriminals. The content posted anonymously on Quora is the only one not at risk from unknown attackers. As Quora says, the platform doesn’t store user information and therefore the individual who published these posts cannot be identified.

Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo made the clarification in a post on the company’s blog. ‘The vast majority of the content allegedly stolen by the attackers was already public on Quora. The hacking of accounts and other personal information, though, is undoubtedly a serious matter and we are therefore conducting the necessary investigations. The company has already sent emails to the users affected by this incident.โ
The company has outlined this incident to ensure appropriate steps are taken. Their aim is to show the potential seriousness of these cyber attacks. It’s doing this by alerting law enforcement authorities and hiring a firm specializing in information security breaches. The hackers reportedly used malware to gain unapproved access to a company’s system without any further details.
Incidents such as this one are becoming more common and over 100 million users were affected by the incident. This cyberattack has marked one of the 20 most serious cybersecurity events on the Internet. Quora is working hard to ensure that similar cyberattacks do not happen again. In particular, the aforementioned pointed out that: “We are working hard and thoroughly investigating the situation. We have already taken appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.โ
