The danger iPhone faces

The risks of having your money stolen from you are prevalent for anyone using iOS’ latest advancements such as iPhone mobile phones.

ESET is advising iOS device users to be especially mindful, as apps have been identified that claim to help track fitness, but use Apple’s Touch ID feature to steal money.

There have been complaints about the recent “Fitness Balance” and “Calories Tracker” apps. These are promise to calculate Body Mass Index and monitor your diet. “These apps come with an unexpectedly hefty price tag, according to Reddit users,” ESET points out.

First-time users of these two apps are asked to scan their fingerprints to “display customized recommendations for calories and diet tracking.” After that, users will be asked for a payment of $99.99 or $119.99 or โ‚ฌ139.99 to continue using the app.

This pop-up only appears for a second. The process also is verified and will transfer if you have your card linked directly to your Apple account.

If someone refuses to have their fingerprints scanned in the Fitness Balance app, another pop-up window appears, asking them to click “Continue”. The app then tries again to repeat the aggressive payment process if the user complies.

ESET suggests you proceed with caution when relying on reviews. Many developers create fake accounts for positive reviews and negative reviews are more likely to reveal the true nature of the app.

iPhone X users can enable an extra feature called “Double Click To Pay”. It will require them to double-click the side button to verify a payment. Users who have recently been scammed by this particular app can try to claim a refund on the App Store.
