One of the most significant benefits of owning an iPhone is the ability to manage your work entirely from just one device. They are often used for ordering food, grocery shopping, and making payments. What separates the modern Apple products from other smartphones is that iPhones now have the capability to run an entire business on a single phone. There, though, iPhone features that expose us to hackers. Apple’s flagship device isn’t always that secure.
It’s the easiest way to send files, photos, videos and anything else between Apple devices. It turns out there’s one more thing you didn’t know: hackers can get your phone number too. Researchers at Hexway have discovered a “bug” in AirDrop, exploited by malware to obtain users’ phone numbers.
When using AirDrop, Bluetooth LE is used to create a direct connection between your devices. This means that transmitted is only a certain amount of devices digits for this process. These digits allow your device to identify the other devices in order to store it as the “secure device for file sharing”. Other iPhone features, such as Apple’s “WiFi Password Sharing” is potentially risky to use. Especially because this feature even exposes you to other people using your WiFi.
For example, you input your mobile number, Apple ID and email address. However, accessing all this information is not as easy as it sounds. It’s not simple to get all the digits of your phone number, with just a few of them revealed.
Older models of the iPhone don’t always send Bluetooth LE signals, even with the latest software installed. However, if you want to feel safe all the time, make sure to save your battery and turn off your phone’s Bluetooth when you don’t need it. Only turn it on when needed.
