Robot home assistant by Amazon | Project Vesta
Amazon is doing really well in the smart device sector. Sales rates of their Alexa-powered speakers show no signs of slowing down. A new report says the company has been investing in a number of related projects, one of which is a robot home assistant.
Bloomberg reports that the team responsible for Fire Phone, Kindles and the Amazon Echo develops the project called Vesta. The codename derives from the Roman goddess of the hearth and family.
The lack of information about the morphology and capabilities of this particular robot assistant, makes it clear that this is a mobile Alexa. We’ll likely be dealing with a device that can follow us anywhere and everywhere to provide answers on the go.
Project Vesta is expected to debut in the homes of some employees, as a test phase. Will not be widely available until after mid 2019.
Overall it is still unclear what the home robot could perform. We are, though, certainly excited and cannot wait for the next announcement in the near future.
