It is obvious that in recent years, Facebook has been losing more and more users, especially younger users. During 2021, US teen users were down 13% from 2019 and will expectedly drop by about 50% by 2023. In particular, most Millennial and Gen z users are largely opting for other social networks such as Instagram and Snapchat while 50% have also made the switch to TikTok which seems to be rising in preference more and more.

Possibly, they have felt that the material they were uploading did not represent them but instead exposed them. Also, some believe that Facebook is now a platform that allows hate speech and fake news, calling it too toxic, intrusive and that it is aimed at a different age group than theirs.
On the other hand, TikTok, they argue, is not so directly intrusive and combines music with social networking which makes it more enjoyable.
