World Wide Web is Still Growing

Sir Tim Berners-Lee’s proposal entitled “Information Management: a Proposal” received approval. He possesed the necessary time to work on a working model. He came up with HTML, HTTP, WorldWideWeb applications and the first Web browser. By 1991, the external web servers were up and running. Sir Tim’s proposal has enabled the internet we know today with all its benefits. It has been 30 years since he first proposed it and it’s changed how human beings interact with each other around the world.

His boss was supportive of this idea, saying that it was “vague but exciting”! Last year, a 33-year old programmer came up with the idea of what we now call “The World Wide Web”. He envisaged a perfect hypertext database of links to help his colleagues share information between computers.

While it should not be confused with the internet, many people have come to think of the world wide web as an online app. The basis of this is so-called innovations such as html language and URLs. The growing web is also decentralized, and the principles of universality and consensus are what keep it running.

Tim Berners-Lee recognised on the occasion of this anniversary that, today, the internet is characterised by many pathologies. Due to an increase in online harassment, spam, fake news and hacking from the governments, users are becoming more and more sick of the internet. Advertising models that incentivize clickbait are thriving and social media has become a way for politicians to spin information and promote themselves.
