IoT security standards in Europe
Kaspersky Labs experts have contributed to the research on “Good Practices for Security of Internet of Things in the context of Smart Manufacturing” so that IoT standards can be more rigorous.
The European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) has published this report. The Agency’s goal was to strengthen IoT security in Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing. The release of the report was on November 18th, 2018.
Industry 4.0
Industry 4.0 applied to industrial strategy, paves the way for high automation and deep integration of IoT into industrial systems. It can lead to increased operational efficiency, time and cost savings for industrial organizations. However, IoT adoption has some downsides including potential cybersecurity risks and major losses. The topic is important to stakeholders, but awareness of industrial IoT threats is still low. The goal of this new research by ENISA is to, first of all, raise awareness on this issue. Accordingly, the Agency aims to promote cooperation on IoT security in the European Union.
Kaspersky Lab experts put their heads together and had a workshop about Industrial IoT and Industry 4.0 Security. They participated in a number of interviews with representatives of the invited organisations, where they discussed the role of monitoring technologies, appropriate considerations around the specifics of Smart Manufacturing and app. ENISA looked to Kaspersky for help with security and their insights turned out to be helpful.
This new research follows the report “Baseline Security Recommendations for IoT”, that includes policy measures for European institutions, IoT hardware manufacturers, and software developers. It was released by the ENISA in October 2017.Kaspersky is an expert in their field and was also involved in the creation of the report that provided recommendations for industry.
