Microsoft increased its revenue

Microsoft increased its revenue and profit by 10% in the fourth quarter of 2018, compared to the same quarter in 2017. New York Times article states that the company had $32.5 billion in revenue and an additional $8.6 billion in earnings.

The financial results exceeded expectations, but that didn’t impress investors. The reason was the drop of Microsoft shares on the US stock market after the announcement.

The company is placing emphasis on cloud computing, which it is now considered the No 2 and a big competitor to Amazon. Azure sales are up 76% from a year ago and the total revenue from Azure and Office 365 reached $9 billion, up 48%.

Sales in the last quarter of last year were also positive, with a 39% increase, compared to the last quarter of 2017, in sales of Surface tablets and laptops. However, the Windows operating system had a drop in sales. That’s the same time Microsoft increased its revenue.

Though difficult, the company managed to bounce back and outperform Apple and Amazon in the last quarter of last year. At one point they had even become the most valuable company in the world.
