MySpace is back in the headlines

MySpace is back in the headlines

Just like in the 2000s, MySpace is back in the headlines. However, this time it’s not for good reasons. A security breach compromised data belonging to tens of millions of users. It was the original social media platform, still be found by visiting to https://www.myspace.com. They also helped independent artists with distribution of music by creating a new way of discovering and following them.

Obviously, today the platform isn’t the same as in 2003 and the years that followed. There’s a server migration project going on and it may have caused some of your old photos, videos, or music files to no longer be available. It is estimated that more than 50 million songs, from 2003 to 2015, were essentially lost.

Some people have told me that MySpace users posted on Reddit that all the music files uploaded before 2015 had become unusable about a year ago. Engadget reports that the initial response was “The company would fix the problem,” and later this was changed to an admission that the files could not be transferred to the new site.

Many people are confused as to why the banner was removed and not replaced with a new one. It’s possible that Twitter was unaware of the changes.

Notable security breeches of the past few years include MySpace and Time, Inc (which had acquired MySpace) confirmed that the platform had been hacked. In 2012, MySpace and Apple were involved in a copyright battle over the logo for their music streaming service.
