New generation of robots
Robot surgery is becoming more widely used in orthopaedic procedures. In recent years, hip and knee arthroplasty met them for the first time. It saves time and effort, lowers prices & increases productivity
Hospitals’ Investment
A hospital purchased one robot in order to help speed up service for patients. It’s use will be valuable for knee and hip replacements in about one year. Currently, a hospital in the region of North and Central Greece is the only one of its kind, together with one in Athens. There is, furthermore, one more hospital in Thessaloniki, while the other one belongs to the same company.
Improvements in various procedures, including surgery and the use of new technologies and robotic devices are one area where recent advancements have helped both patients and doctors alike. Upper and lower joint replacement, as well as techniques of presentation help provide a better quality of life with less risk. The conference will take place between the 6th and 8th of December. Principal organisers are the MAST International Arthroplasty Congress, the European Hip Surgery Society (EHS) and the European Federation of Orthopaedic Surgery (EFFORT). The University Orthopaedic Clinic of Papageorgiou Hospital will play a major part in the preperation.
Robots assisting medical operations
The use of robots in orthopaedics rose over the last few years. Though they are expensive, they are investment worth in some cases. Hospitals with robots can afford to treat patients more efficiently than their public counterparts. Doctors are now starting to use the use of robots in various ways. Primarily, they are to offer assistance during operations.
There aren’t 100 robots in the US, so not everyone can say they are using robots. Technically, there is a mechanical arm which we give data and at the time of surgery we dynamically map what has been taken from imaging the patient to make sure everything goes smoothly when it comes time for a procedure. AI devices have better accuracy, providing much more precise surgical procedures. Their programming include the desired positions and carry out the tasks you expect them to.
These are done by the robot arm with the help of the surgeon who is present,” said the chairman of a conference, Professor Eleftherios Tsiridis, director of University Orthopaedic Clinic of Papageorgiou General Hospital and secretary general.
Robots become a bigger presence in the workplace. Mr Tsiridis also explained that they offer substantial freedom for human input at times. This is because humans have been learning how to work with these new machines and their capabilities. “In other robotic systems, the surgeon is bound by the robot to do or not to do the particular movement. In the new generation robotic systems the development is that they give plasticity and ease and the intervention is more dynamic,” Tsiridis added.
