Spotify has filed a patent since 2018 for a new technology. The new feature will suggest songs to their users based on their emotional state. The committe granted the approval on the 12th of January 2021. Therefore, we expect its use soon.
According to Spotify, this technology will take into account the analysis of the tone of voice of the service’s subscribers. In addition, a special algorithm will make personalized song suggestions, depending on gender, age and accent.
Personal data such as “intonation, stress, rhythm” will provide clues as to whether a user was “happy, angry, sad or neutral”, Spotify states.
Based on this patented technology, Spotify will be able to “make observations” about a user’s environment, meaning it will be able to identify whether the user is alone, with a friend, or at a venue or party.
The innovation that Spotify has patented makes it possible to make personalised suggestions to its users, as the times now dictate for all social network services. On the other hand, however, questions are raised as to how many ‘monitoring’ rights users voluntarily grant to the online services in question…
