New Uber rules | Use of mask monitored with the facial recognition app feature
If you ride Uber without a mask, you might lose access to the app after a while.
Effective May 18, Uber riders and drivers must wear a nose and mouth mask at all times in order to ensure passenger safety. Any rider or driver found to be violating the company’s policy can report this through the app. Uber is adding new options to their reporting feature. They’re providing a safe area that drivers and passengers can use to discuss concerns without fear of being kicked off Uber or reported as a violator.
Certain types of content on social media will be treated more severely depending on the court’s decision. A “suspension or a permanent ban from accessing the app,” is one such case, according to PCMag.
Don’t worry! Uber will be launching a new way of ensuring drivers don’t show any faces, along with a system that requires them to take a selfie before picking up a passenger. Through the app, they will have to make sure their face is covered in what appears to be an appropriate manner.
Uber’s reassurements
The company said it would notify the passenger when they confirm that the driver was also wearing a face covering. “Unlike our Real-Time ID Check system, this technology detects the mask as an object within the photo and does not process biometric data or compare mask selfies with drivers in our database”
If you’ve been banned from the Uber app, it might be due to a facial recognition error. Providing a clear set of guidelines & training for drivers on how to comply with mask use would prevent these mistakes.
Passengers simply have to approve a safety checklist before they use the app. “Passengers must confirm that they have taken protective measures such as wearing a mask or covering their face and washing or disinfecting their hands with antiseptic. The requirements for the new office chair feature a few unique factors,” the company said. “We are also reducing the maximum suggested number of passengers for an UberX ride to 3 from 4.”
In the event that you don’t have a gas mask, you’ll still be taken by Uber. Cancelling your ride is just a tap away and will only cost $3 if you do.
