No more Emotet

An international team of researchers has taken down Emotet, the world’s most dangerous malware, dealing a major blow to hackers.

The operation took place on Tuesday 26/1 , as part of an international campaign.ย  The German criminal investigation department announced the operation’s report. The participation of the investigators was large and global.ย  They came from the Netherlands, Ukraine, Lithuania, France, France, Britain, Canada and the United States. European law enforcement authorities overtook the overall coordination of the operation.

Emotet can steal passwords and remotely install malware.

Emotet botnets were a major concern in 2020. Botnet operations focus on illegal activities such as collecting browser information, collecting passwords, stealing login credentials from banking websites or deploying ransomware-type malware (asking for a “ransom” to unlock the computer). Emotet is rightly considered very dangerous. It has the ability to install malicious programs such as Trickbot and QBot on the victim’s computer. Trickbot and QBot have their own malicious activity, however, in turn they can lead to Conti (Trickbot) or Ryuk ransomware attacks. The emotet has reportedly been used in several organised attacks, which include attempts to infiltrate the world’s largest oil company, Saudi Arabia’s Aramco, and manipulate the 2020 US presidential election campaign.

German police said that in their country alone, Emotet’s attacks against individuals and institutions, including a Berlin court, caused at least โ‚ฌ14.5 million in damages.
