Google has invented a new platform called Android Things which can be used in many home appliances and other machines that are connected to the Internet of Things. This helps make your house easier to use and help save energy.
As with mobile devices and the network infrastructure, Google does not intend to charge manufacturers for their integration of Android into their products. The company hopes, though, that these digital goods will further help to generate revenue. They can use these devices to not only search for desired content but also shop for it.
A single platform that can be accessed on a variety of different devices is a strategic objective for Google. Analysts do not seem extatic about Google’s performance so far. “If you want to be generous, you say it’s still early days. If you’re not, you’re saying Android is almost non-existent beyond phones,” said Richard Kramer of research firm Arete.
Android Automotive has not been successful in “fitting in” with their market. They haven’t been able to surpass the success of Apple’s smartwatch software either. Sales of smart TVs running the Samsung operating system in 2017 were four times higher than sales of Android TVs according to a report by firm HIS Markit. In every category of smart devices, Android’s market share is smaller than competing variants created by manufacturers.
On the other hand, Google is optimistic, considering that its share is constantly rising in all sectors, particularly in the major markets of South Asia and South America.
The Android Things platform by Google will compete with Amazon’s Greengrass system and Microsoft’s Windows IoT. Google guarantees, to manufacturers who integrate its system into their devices, free security updates for three years.
