Outrage over app that spied | Superhuman appย
A new scandal has shaken the tech industry. It is one that should actually be taken seriously.
Superhuman is a type of app that can help with your memorization. It helps you visualize and understand what you’re working on in order to remember it far better. It allowed you to spy on other people’s emails. When you sent an email through the $30-a-month app, which you even only logged into by invitation, the app not only automatically recorded every time the recipient opened the email, but it even showed you their location. As they would be your new work contact or their address was listed in a way that made them vulnerable to theft.

Facebook’s cybersecurity manager reveals that Superhuman was in fact not gathering any private data, but instead using its artificial intelligence to scan emails to detect and stop bots. So it wasn’t spying on people like advertised! This creates a privacy issue for some people.
The internet is completely packed full of images. There are millions of them and each one has to be downloaded individually before we can even start to see what it contains. A tracking pixel is a different kind of web bug that other computers mark as your browse certain websites. When servers are to monitor user activity, they have security reinforced and speed much improved.
This idea was simple in thought, but it resulted in a great feature that is accessible with just a single click. It is invisible and doesn’t clutter your inbox. The way the computer can know you opened the link is through a special request from the sender, sent to the server. These recipients are so small you will barely be able to see them.
Now you can send messages to people anywhere in the world with real-time updates on where they are. Superhuman’s low prices and free trials make this a great service to have! And what does it mean not to have such sensitive information fall into the wrong hands? Simply put, such incidents can lead to a lot of damage.
Superhuman apologized for the geolocation feature in their app and removed it from release.
