Procedure for changing provider
For Internet access services, the EETT ensures that the process is simple. Both providers involved, old and new, must provide all the information the user needs. The new provider must activate the service as soon as possible (the time is explicitly mentioned in the contract). In the meantime the old provider must continue providing services until the activation of the connection by the new one.
We need to stress that users have the right to keep their telephone number even if they change provider. This must be done as soon as possible (within time mentioned in the contract). Even if the user terminates the contract, the user has the right to keep the number, he/she simply has to make a request within one month.
According to the NRA, the regulation will not leave the user without service. Either the old or the new provider will cover him during the switching process for more than one working day. For this reason, the two providers must cooperate and not delay. The user’s contract with the old provider terminates with completion of the switching process and the old provider must return any credit balance or prepaid services to the user (unless explicitly stated otherwise in the contract).
If the providers do not comply with their obligations under the EETT, they are subject to penalties and compensation to the user in accordance with the principles of proportionality, objectivity and effectiveness. The user must know his rights and the EETT shall ensure to transmit the information.
